Kips Bay has a below average violent crime rate and an average property crime rate for New York City. Kips Bay is a small neighborhood in Manhattan. Residents often describe it as "quiet" and "peaceful" — this is not one of the city's flashy places to live — but it offers all the daily conveniences you might need and is walking distance to more interesting neighborhoods when you want a change of scenery.

And since it's not considered trendy, it's much more affordable than nearby areas like Gramercy. Most of the housing here comes in the form of nondescript apartment blocks and condo towers, although some side streets do have charming brick walk-ups. Like nearly all Manhattan 'hoods, there is a wide variety of dining options for every budget and taste.

There is also a strip mall — an unusual site in Manhattan — that houses one of the city's nicest cinemas and some basics like a bank, fitness center, and pharmacy. This is also a hub for medical care with several hospitals within its borders or nearby, so doctors and med students are a common site. The neighborhood has a couple leafy parks and easy access to the walking path that runs alongside the East River.

Set on the East River and offering fabulous sweeping panoramic views from every table, The Water Club remains a hallmark of classic American cuisine. The neighborhood is nice with lots of convenient amenities gyms, grocery stores etc.

Not especially hip but a nice place to live. This is a very fun area with a lot of places to go. There are tons of bars, restaurants, shops, nail salons, and it is easy to get around. Very convenient location, very young, very safe, and very clean.

Everything you need can be found in Murray Hill! No complaints. Reviewed by RF. Kips Bay has the perks of a quiet, residential neighborhood, and is a relative unknown. Hidden gem? The neighborhood is nice and very clean.

It is close to the gramercy park as well as union square. Nice neighborhood, but it does not have a very active night scene in case you want one. Reviewed by Student. There are plenty of restaurants and bars in this neighborhood and it is just a short walk to get to others. There's a Fairway here and they are building a Trader Joe's to be open next year.

Overall a lively neighborhood close to the action downtown and to work in midtown. Proximity to public transportation is great too. Good grocery store Fairway , movie theater, and a handful of decent restaurants nearby too. Most Keep reading. Kips Bay isn't the hippest neighborhood in this area, but it's got everything you need and is conveniently located to other, hipper neighborhoods East Village, Flatiron, etc. Nearby there are good restaurant and bar options.

One of the last wooden houses in Manhattan is on 29th street, and there is a rare-for-NYC alley named Broadway Alley despite the fact it is nowhere near Broadway the street or the industry.
